We can say that Singapore is a city of contrasts. Here, you can walk and be surprised every minute. Practically near there are a number of ultra-modern skyscrapers and quarters with small Chinese houses, entering which it seems that time has stopped. In Singapore, there are well-known neighbourhoods – Chinatown (Chinese), Little India (Indian) and Arab Street (Arabic). In Singapore, everyone will find something to see – hotels, the world’s largest banks, state-of- the-art entertainment centres, Buddhist temples, luxury supermarkets, busy streets and parks rich in the green.
If we literally translate the name of the city of Singapore from the Sanskrit this word sounds like ‘Lion City.’ Lion is considered to be the ancient mythical patron of Singapore. By the way, in the Padang area you can see a metal statue of a sea lion (Merlion) which reminds tourists and residents of the mythical animal.
